Depicts the application of initial pressure point control through the use of a knee being applied to the femoral artery which should help to control the bleed while obtaining and applying a TQ.

Initial Care F/X Knife Injury Child-5

Depicts simulated injury to a 7 y/o child’s lower leg apparently inflicted by a knife. A child appears quiet, and a knife appears on the floor between the child’s legs. Bystander seems to be applying a tourniquet.

TEACHING POINT. Noting the lack of gloves - could be due to gloves being unavailable to lay provider or due to a training situation.

TEACHING POINT: TQ is applied over the clothes and proximal to the wound which is consistent with the C-TECC Guidelines for immediate/initial care bystanders.

TQ-Self Application-Arm - 1

Depicts a simulated lower arm injury with bleeding. The injured person is self-applying a tourniquet. The simulated wound (laceration or incision) is an apparent knife injury. Appropriate direct threat care, assuming the environment is still considered to be a hot zone.

TEACHING POINT: Note that the TQ is being applied high up the arm and is sufficiently tight to stop the bleeding.

Depicts a simulated lower arm injury with bleeding. The injured person is self-applying a tourniquet. The simulated wound (laceration or incision) is an apparent knife injury. Appropriate direct threat care, assuming the environment is still considered to be a hot zone.
